Cupcakes and Cashmere – The Book!

29 Sep

You guys seriously you need this book! And no, not just because I love Emily’s Blog, because it is probably the most practical and informative book I think I have ever purchased. And it looks just perfect on my coffee table.

The book itself is divided into each of the four seasons; Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter. With each season providing different tips, tricks and DIY’s. Most importantly, it has taught me how to build my wardrobe and incorporate the same staple pieces throughout the year. Since I am so smitten, I thought I would share my favorite highlights from each season.

Spring

Navigating the Flea Market.

This is something I have always been intimated by and hence, why I have never actually been to a flea market. I feel like the hoarder within me would be unleashed, and I would come home with a million things I would never look at again. Emily does a great job explaining what to look for and how to strike a deal. The flea market is now on my list of to-do’s.

How to Create a Beautiful Flower Arrangement.

I suck at making flowers look nice, I usually just throw them in a mason jar and hope they survive, I never thought twice about it. But after reading this section I now feel like I have the confidence to trim and arrange a lovely display.

Summer

The perfect pie crust recipe.

This has been on my list of things to learn for quite some time. Now that I have a recipe I might just attempt it, Thanksgiving is just around the corner, I can’t think of a better time to bake a homemade pie!

How to Shift Your Wardrobe from Summer to Fall.

I have always struggled with season changes, in fact most of the time I use them as an excuse to buy a whole new wardrobe. This piece has allowed me to look at my wardrobe in a whole new way, and maybe even save a few dollars.

Fall

How to Apply Fake Eyelashes.

Maybe this is an easy task for some of you, in fact, I know it is, because I watch my friends effortlessly apply them before a night out. Well, I am the polar opposite, in fact sometime I refer to myself as a boy. I prefer cleats to high heels, but that doesn’t mean I can’t look like a lady every now and again, and long eyelashes play a part in that.  I have tried unsuccessfully on many occasions to try and apply these. After reading this step by step guide I know why, and I wonder how it’s possible that I have spent so much time sweating in the bathroom while my eye is glued shut. Thanks to Emily, I am turning over a new leaf (and hopefully never gluing my eye shut again).

How to Photograph Pretty.

It’s hit or miss for me, I don’t think that is going to change. However, I did enjoy this little explanation.

Winter

The Perfect Gift Guide.

Without giving you specific items, Emily teaches you how to easily brainstorm the perfect for just about anyone.

Layering Logistics.

I love layering, summer or winter, I think it’s the perfect way to diversify your outfit. This quick guide is the perfect starting point for creating both textured and functional outfits.

Although some of the content may seem like common sense, it is so nice to have something to refer to and use as a guide, or at least a starting point. I like lists, schedules and instructions, not everyone does, but whether you need instruction or not I guarantee this book will teach something new.

Seriously, I can not say enough about this book, I absolutely love it. Cupcakes and Cashmere and I are a match made in heaven; recipes, fashion tips, entertaining strategies and so much more…pure bliss, I tell ya!

Bloggers and Books

6 Aug

Lately, it seems like all of my daily reads and favorite bloggers are getting book deals…awesome right? I am so excited to read each and everyone one them! From cook books to novels to fashion and entertaining I definitely see a few amazon orders in my future.

Jenna from Eat Live Run has a coming of age novel “White Jacket Required” slated to be released on September 4. I already feel like I kind of know Jenna, in fact, in my mind we are friends. Ya, I’m weird I know. Regardless, I can’t wait to read about her culinary journey in the upcoming novel.

Emily from Cupcakes and Cashmere will be releasing “Cupcakes and Cashmere: A Guide for Defining Your Style, Reinventing Your Space, and Entertaining with Ease”. I can’t wait to get my hands on this, it is going to be filled with so much useful content for all aspects of my life. And look at this cover…perfect table book!

Ree from the Pioneer Woman had her book released back in January and I have yet to read it. “The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Recipes from an Accidental Country Girl” looks like the perfect addition to my cook book collection. I mean come on it says country girl and has a recipe for Strawberry Shortcake….perfect!

Another one of my addictions Spoon Fork Bacon‘s collaborators Teri and Jenni have done it again with “Tiny Food Party“. This cook book will be filled with quick and easy recipes for bite sized versions of all your favorite foods. An appetizer cook book…genius I tell ya! I mean who doesn’t need one.

Now you’re all excited too… I know it! And if you aren’t, humor me and pretend that you are.

Last Thing Thursdays

5 Jul

All I can say is the sun is finally out in Vancouver, better late than never right?!

The Last Thing I…

Bought. This summer cardigan and I have been waiting for a day like today to bust it out. Even better, it was a steal on the clearance rack at target for $6.48. BAM!

P.S. This camera angle does great things for my chest area…Warning, these are not to scale!

Wanted to buy. This iPhone case I found on etsy.

Too cute…I LOVE it!

Tried on a whim. An iced organic root beer float tea from David’s Tea. Sounds weird right? That’s why I tried it…I am adventurous like that. And it paid off, it was surprisingly delicious and refreshing.

I had it made in store but you can also buy the loose leaf tea in store or online and make it yourself. It is the perfect drink for this sunny summer afternoon.

Was totally smitten for. This peach blouse.

I need it and everything else in Emily’s closet!

Laughed hysterically at. An app called aLike, you put in your photo and it tells you what celebrity you look most like. Except I wouldn’t say it’s completely accurate…Check out this photo of my boyfriend as a kid.

I see the resemblance…don’t you? NOT! Oh and for the record if you don’t hear from me for a while it’s because I have been shot for posting that photo of him.

It’s been nice knowing ya!

Last Thing Thursdays

24 May

I am seriously sleep deprived people. That is all.

The Last Thing I…

Pinned. Apartment Inspiration. Who am I kidding this will probably not be permitted in the new place. Reason? Too girly. Insert eye roll here.

Listened to. Queen of California off John Mayer’s new album Born and Raised. I have to say I am really digging what I have heard so far.

Really Wanted to Buy.

I saw this skirt on Cupcakes and Cashmere and fell instantly in love…Amazing, Right? Coming soon to my closet!

Bought. Light fixtures, curtains and a vanity. Finally we have moved on to the fun stuff. Pictures to come I promise.

Had to do that I didn’t want to. Take my poor Lulu to the vet. Her ears have just been so bad I knew it was time, and what do you know – a double ear infection. Poor thing, it  was a bit of a traumatizing experience for both of us. It took myself and a vet tech to hold her down to have them cleaned. $220 later she was feeling much better and I was covered in pee. Money well spent!

Ate. Chips for dinner, definitely a downfall of finishing renovations before we move in on Saturday. Or a plus depending on how you look at it.

Side Note – These new Presidents Choice Pop Chips were not half bad (I had ketchup flavor). I may even be persuaded to eat another bag for dinner.

Planned. Summer projects to start once we are settled in.

Love these jar labels, we are painting a chalkboard wall in our kitchen so this perfect for the leftovers.

PS. It’s almost Friday which is totally exciting for you but for mean it probably means even less sleep and more hard work!

Easter Goodies

4 Apr

It’s time to get in the Easter Spirit kids, I don’t know about you but I love me a good Easter egg hunt and all of the sweets that accompany this holiday meant for…er Jesus? Well bless him, because now there is an entire day devoted to candy and I would say that is something worth celebrating wouldn’t you?

I don’t know how you feel about Cadbury Creme Eggs but personally I love them, maybe not as much as Cadbury Mini Eggs but they are right up there. They are delicious in a kind of disgusting way. I mean who thought it would be a good idea to replicate a raw egg inside a chocolate coating and call it candy? A genius I say! So when I saw these Creme Egg Brownies on Love and Olive Oil it inspired me to put together a few little Easter treats for you to try this holiday weekend!

Everyone always raves about candy cane bark at Christmas so why not try an Eater version – Easter Candy Bark from Gingerbread bagels.

Or these adorable Coconut Nest Cupcakes made by the lovely Emily at Cupcakes and Cashmere.

Not in to cupcakes? What about these Coconut Macaroon Nutella Nests… um yes please!

Whatever you decide to make bring some over will ya?

Enjoy!

24 May

There are a number of blogs that I really enjoy reading, other than my own of course! I spend a lot of time reading about fashion, food, travel, music and all of the other things I love so, why not share them with you. Most new bloggers probably wouldn’t give you other successful bloggers links so early in the game, for fear that you would love them more and never return. Well I told myself, have no fear, if they love you they will return…so you better be back or I will be pissed. Just kidding… NOT! Without further adieu…
