I can not believe it is already the second day in October, time really does fly! I think its safe to say Fall is finally here in Vancouver. Officially, the first day of Fall was almost two weeks ago, but at that time we were still enjoying sunshine and abnormally warm temperatures, and I was cursing Summer for still kicking around. And I am sure you are now cursing me for getting rid of what is likely your favorite season. And to that I say…you had time people, and now its mine! Selfish? Maybe…but I am okay with that. There are a lot of reasons why Fall is my favorite season. Let’s break it down shall we?
Oh hey there Monday, so nice to see you…well maybe not so much. I had a fantastic and somewhat relaxing weekend, relaxing, yes that is what I said. Weird, I know! On Friday I received a couple of sweet surprises in the mail.
This adorable print from Bonnie over at Going Home to Roost.
I can’t wait to frame it and find a place for it in our home. And then I opened my September Glossybox.
It was packed full of goodies, including; a full makeup palette, deodorant, Wella shine serum and more. It might just be my favorite yet! I also watched this little rugrat play soccer.
Did a bit of shopping and then caught up on Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. I am so devastated that the season is over!
On Saturday, I started the day with a little bit of reading
I don’t know where my deep love for magazines stems from but you can always count on finding a giant stack of them under my coffee table.
I spent the rest of the afternoon cleaning, and then I filled the house with groceries…not very exciting at all, but someone has got to do it! On Saturday night we decided to see a movie.
I think the last movie I saw in the theater was Magic Mike, it felt like I hadn’t been to the theater in forever! Trouble with the Curve was awesome, and no, not just because it was a baseball movie. It had a great cast and I really enjoyed it, I would definitely recommend it.
On Sunday I did the CIBC Run For The Cure. The Fun Bags (thanks Nick) totally rocked! What an amazing and inspiring morning. I am so happy to have shared it with some of my favorite people!
And to my own surprise, I crushed that 5k. And then, I finally had the opportunity to attend the Food Cart Fest at The Waldorf Hotel. Where I enjoyed some well deserved pupusas at the Guanaco Food Truck.
I also sampled the Steamed Chicken Bun at Le tigre
and ended the day with some Earnest ice Cream.
Seriously people, you have got to try this ice cream. It is absolutely amazing, so creamy, possibly even the best I have ever had. My flavor choice? You guessed it, Hair of the Pig…and it was to die for!
You should go get some…like now!
You guys seriously you need this book! And no, not just because I love Emily’s Blog, because it is probably the most practical and informative book I think I have ever purchased. And it looks just perfect on my coffee table.
The book itself is divided into each of the four seasons; Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter. With each season providing different tips, tricks and DIY’s. Most importantly, it has taught me how to build my wardrobe and incorporate the same staple pieces throughout the year. Since I am so smitten, I thought I would share my favorite highlights from each season.
Navigating the Flea Market.
This is something I have always been intimated by and hence, why I have never actually been to a flea market. I feel like the hoarder within me would be unleashed, and I would come home with a million things I would never look at again. Emily does a great job explaining what to look for and how to strike a deal. The flea market is now on my list of to-do’s.
How to Create a Beautiful Flower Arrangement.
I suck at making flowers look nice, I usually just throw them in a mason jar and hope they survive, I never thought twice about it. But after reading this section I now feel like I have the confidence to trim and arrange a lovely display.
The perfect pie crust recipe.
This has been on my list of things to learn for quite some time. Now that I have a recipe I might just attempt it, Thanksgiving is just around the corner, I can’t think of a better time to bake a homemade pie!
How to Shift Your Wardrobe from Summer to Fall.
I have always struggled with season changes, in fact most of the time I use them as an excuse to buy a whole new wardrobe. This piece has allowed me to look at my wardrobe in a whole new way, and maybe even save a few dollars.
How to Apply Fake Eyelashes.
Maybe this is an easy task for some of you, in fact, I know it is, because I watch my friends effortlessly apply them before a night out. Well, I am the polar opposite, in fact sometime I refer to myself as a boy. I prefer cleats to high heels, but that doesn’t mean I can’t look like a lady every now and again, and long eyelashes play a part in that. I have tried unsuccessfully on many occasions to try and apply these. After reading this step by step guide I know why, and I wonder how it’s possible that I have spent so much time sweating in the bathroom while my eye is glued shut. Thanks to Emily, I am turning over a new leaf (and hopefully never gluing my eye shut again).
How to Photograph Pretty.
It’s hit or miss for me, I don’t think that is going to change. However, I did enjoy this little explanation.
The Perfect Gift Guide.
Without giving you specific items, Emily teaches you how to easily brainstorm the perfect for just about anyone.
I love layering, summer or winter, I think it’s the perfect way to diversify your outfit. This quick guide is the perfect starting point for creating both textured and functional outfits.
Although some of the content may seem like common sense, it is so nice to have something to refer to and use as a guide, or at least a starting point. I like lists, schedules and instructions, not everyone does, but whether you need instruction or not I guarantee this book will teach something new.
Seriously, I can not say enough about this book, I absolutely love it. Cupcakes and Cashmere and I are a match made in heaven; recipes, fashion tips, entertaining strategies and so much more…pure bliss, I tell ya!

This morning was perfect; cool, crisp Fall air and bright sunshine. It’s mornings like today I don’t mind having to get up early to walk my pooch. In fact, I kind of enjoyed it, as much the passerby’s must have enjoyed my outfit; floral pajama pants, pink t shirt, my coral jacket and Uggs. I promise to take a photo of my next glamorous dog walking ensemble.
The Last Thing…
I Was Upset About. My moccasins…another pair bites the dust, or so to speak.
I wish you could feel how crusty they are, the picture does not do my poor shoes any justice.
I don’t know what it is about moccasins, but Lulu will hunt these puppies out. This is the second pair she has destroyed. She doesn’t want the $2.00 Old Navy flip-flops or any other shoes for that matter…just moccasins. I cam home to find all of my shoes pulled out of the closet but only my favorite Minnetonka’s eaten. In all honesty she could have eaten any other pair (except my cowboy boots) and I would not have been as upset. The problem is I wear a size 5 in Minnetonka’s, and of course sizing in Canada starts at a 6. So I have to get my favorite shoes in the US of A. Thank goodness Nordstrom ships, and now I wait patiently for my wardrobe, to once again be complete.
I Had to Confess.
50 Shades of Grey, I started it, even though I told myself I wouldn’t. I think I just need to pass my own judgement. So far, the story itself is not bad but…I could do without some of the ahem “details”.
I Thought was an awesome gift Idea.
I Wish Delivered in Canada. Olive Box
It’s just like glossybox, but for paper and scrapbook lovers. Each month your box will include paper and lifestyle products, from cards and artwork, to books and unique gift ideas. Just look at September’s goodies. Seriously, I am devastated that I can’t open one of these up each month. I am keeping my fingers crossed for a Canadian version, you with me? I Was Excited About. The many changes coming to Diary of a Jewell, first up our Facebook Page. Head on over and like the page and while you are at it, share it with your friends. This crazy little blog has got some awesome things on the horizon! I know the suspense is killing you, so stay tuned!
I Was Totally Obsessed With.
Lenny and Eva Jewelery. Kellie named this jewelery line after her 2 great grandmothers and I could not be more smitten. I love all of the pieces and the ability you have to mix and match and make your own statement. Not only does Kellie create amazing jewelery, she also writes an adorable little blog. Unfortunately, you can not buy directly off of the site, but there is a store locator and several of the stores have online shops. For all you Vancouverites, Galiano Gifts at the Vancouver International Airport also carries them. I guess I will be making a trip out to the airport sometime in the near future.
I Pinned. Southern Caramel Cake
We all know that I love the South, here is another one of many reasons why….Cake!
Enjoy your Thursday!
It’s Monday…obviously. Unfortunately, for me, it’s one of those Monday’s you wish you could stay in bed all day. I could use just one more day of the weekend…and oh, what a weekend it was. On Friday night I tried my hand at a hairstyle I had been eying on pinterest.
I’d say it was a success, here are the step by step instructions.
And then we went for dinner at Cinema.
This BLTA sandwich was absolutely delicious, the rosemary mayo really put it over the top. Dinner was followed by the Jason Mraz concert.
Can you say amazing?! He was out of this world!
I definitely did not want it to end.
On Saturday I took my niece to a birthday party at Chuck E Cheese and I think I had just as much fun as the kids. I forgot what a blast it is to play all of the games.
The girls took part in some illegal riding activity, which may or may not have been fully condoned by the parents.
And then on Saturday night I got to meet one of my best friends’ new puppy.
Bear! How cute is she! The puppy snuggles were followed by another friends’ art show and a girls night.
If you have noticed the 3 glasses of wine I am holding, don’t jump to conclusions! They aren’t all mine…
Let’s just say I certainly had my share of beverages and sadly due to an “inexplicable illness” the following morning I did not make it to the food cart fest. Devastating… I know!
On the bright side, two of my favorite shows are back on tonight, 2 Broke Girls and Hawaii Five O. It’s all about finding your silver lining people.
Hey guess what?! It’s almost the weekend…yessss! Here’s a little something to help you get through the day.
Seriously how cute is that Bandana! (minus the wrinkles…no not her wrinkles those are awesome!) Moving on to your favorite weekly post.
The Last Thing…
I really, really wanted. These absolutely stunning Old Gringo boots.
I am drooling right now…but at $600 a pair I think I will keep dreaming.
I Was Looking Forward To. Food Cart Fest at The Waldorf.
I have not sampled a single bite from any of Vancouver’s new and exciting food trucks. What better way to do it, then all at once! The Food Cart Fest ran every Sunday throughout the Summer. Unfortunately, our busy schedule did not allow us to check it out. But fortunately, for us it was so popular they extended it until Sept 30…yessssss! I can not wait to stuff my face, have a couple beverages and enjoy the live music.
I Ogled on Etsy. The gorgeous fruit bin.
It sits under you cabinets and above the counter, perfect for utilizing counter space in a small kitchen. I would love to replace out counter top basket with this beauty!
That Made Me Laugh Out Loud.
When I am lost the first thing I do is turn down the music, silence is totally going to help me figure out where I am…not! If you don’t listen to country music you probably won’t get it….I will forgive you, but just this once!
I Pinned. Pumpkin Cream Oreo Tarts via Lauren’s Latest
Two words…yes please! Let’s talk about Pinterest for a moment, does anyone get as much joy as I do when people re pin the things you’ve pinned? I don’t know why but for some reason it is really, really satisfying…is that weird?
I was Intrigued By. This List.
15 Books to Cure your Hunger Games Hangover. I can fully admit that I have not recovered from my Hunger Games hang0ver and I have been looking for something to fill the giant void for some time. I have heard of Diveregent and was considering reading the series, do you have any insight into this novel or any of the others on the list? Sharing is caring you know!
