Cupcakes and Cashmere – The Book!

You guys seriously you need this book! And no, not just because I love Emily’s Blog, because it is probably the most practical and informative book I think I have ever purchased. And it looks just perfect on my coffee table.

The book itself is divided into each of the four seasons; Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter. With each season providing different tips, tricks and DIY’s. Most importantly, it has taught me how to build my wardrobe and incorporate the same staple pieces throughout the year. Since I am so smitten, I thought I would share my favorite highlights from each season.


Navigating the Flea Market.

This is something I have always been intimated by and hence, why I have never actually been to a flea market. I feel like the hoarder within me would be unleashed, and I would come home with a million things I would never look at again. Emily does a great job explaining what to look for and how to strike a deal. The flea market is now on my list of to-do’s.

How to Create a Beautiful Flower Arrangement.

I suck at making flowers look nice, I usually just throw them in a mason jar and hope they survive, I never thought twice about it. But after reading this section I now feel like I have the confidence to trim and arrange a lovely display.


The perfect pie crust recipe.

This has been on my list of things to learn for quite some time. Now that I have a recipe I might just attempt it, Thanksgiving is just around the corner, I can’t think of a better time to bake a homemade pie!

How to Shift Your Wardrobe from Summer to Fall.

I have always struggled with season changes, in fact most of the time I use them as an excuse to buy a whole new wardrobe. This piece has allowed me to look at my wardrobe in a whole new way, and maybe even save a few dollars.


How to Apply Fake Eyelashes.

Maybe this is an easy task for some of you, in fact, I know it is, because I watch my friends effortlessly apply them before a night out. Well, I am the polar opposite, in fact sometime I refer to myself as a boy. I prefer cleats to high heels, but that doesn’t mean I can’t look like a lady every now and again, and long eyelashes play a part in that.  I have tried unsuccessfully on many occasions to try and apply these. After reading this step by step guide I know why, and I wonder how it’s possible that I have spent so much time sweating in the bathroom while my eye is glued shut. Thanks to Emily, I am turning over a new leaf (and hopefully never gluing my eye shut again).

How to Photograph Pretty.

It’s hit or miss for me, I don’t think that is going to change. However, I did enjoy this little explanation.


The Perfect Gift Guide.

Without giving you specific items, Emily teaches you how to easily brainstorm the perfect for just about anyone.

Layering Logistics.

I love layering, summer or winter, I think it’s the perfect way to diversify your outfit. This quick guide is the perfect starting point for creating both textured and functional outfits.

Although some of the content may seem like common sense, it is so nice to have something to refer to and use as a guide, or at least a starting point. I like lists, schedules and instructions, not everyone does, but whether you need instruction or not I guarantee this book will teach something new.

Seriously, I can not say enough about this book, I absolutely love it. Cupcakes and Cashmere and I are a match made in heaven; recipes, fashion tips, entertaining strategies and so much more…pure bliss, I tell ya!

Almond Butter Cookies (with White Chocolate Chips)

Sometimes you just need to bake, I get the itch fairly often, and now that Fall is here I just can’t help myself. Last night I didn’t have any bananas to use up, or fruit in my freezer, chocolate chip cookies were not the answer…so what did I do? Well duh? I looked for a little inspiration on Pinterest of course! I saw a few different variations of Almond Butter Cookies and decided to adapt this one. I don’t know about you but I have never been a big peanut butter fan, I will eat it but I probably would choose something else if I could.

The first time I tried Almond Butter I was completely sold, I like the flavor much more than peanut butter. And to be honest after making these almond butter cookies I don’t think I will going back to the traditional peanut butter cookies anytime soon!

Almond Butter Cookies with White Chocolate Chips – Adapted from Good Life Eats

Makes about 32 Cookies.


1 & 1/4 Cups of Flour

1/4 Teaspoon of Baking Soda

1/4 Teaspoon of Baking Powder

1/2 Teaspoon of Salt

8 Tablespoons (1 Stick) of Butter, softened

1/2 Cup Light Brown Sugar

1/2 Granulated Sugar

1/2 Cup Almond Butter

1 Large Egg

1 & 1/4 Teaspoons of Vanilla

1/2 Cup of Almond Flour (you can also substitute coarsely chopped almonds)

1 Cup of White Chocolate Chips (optional)


Line baking sheet with parchment paper or grease your cookie sheet accordingly. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Combine flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt in a bowl and set aside. Beat butter until creamy and then add the white and brown sugar, continue beating until fluffy. Be sure to scrape the bowl with a spatula to ensure all ingredients are well combined. ( I find that there is always a large butter clump in the bottom of my kitchenaid mixing bowl).

Beat in the almond butter and vanilla until combined and then beat in the egg. Gently stir in your bowl of dry ingredients. Once combined, add the almond flour and white chocolate chips and stir until they are incorporated.

Roll cookies into balls, about 2 tablespoons of dough in each ball. (I used this portion scoop and it worked like a dream) Lightly flour a fork and press the dough balls down in a crisscross pattern. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until the edges are slightly brown. Let the cookies cool for a couple of minutes on the cookie sheet before transferring to a cooling rack.



Monday Morsels

It’s Monday…obviously. Unfortunately, for me,  it’s one of those Monday’s you wish you could stay in bed all day. I could use just one more day of the weekend…and oh, what a weekend it was. On Friday night I tried my hand at a hairstyle I had been eying on pinterest.

I’d say it was a success, here are the step by step instructions.

And then we went for dinner at Cinema.

This BLTA sandwich was absolutely delicious, the rosemary mayo really put it over the top. Dinner was followed by the Jason Mraz concert.

Can you say amazing?! He was out of this world!

I definitely did not want it to end.

On Saturday I took my niece to a birthday party at Chuck E Cheese and I think I had just as much fun as the kids. I forgot what a blast it is to play all of the games.

The girls took part in some illegal riding activity, which may or may not have been fully condoned by the parents.

And then on Saturday night I got to meet one of my best friends’ new puppy.

Bear! How cute is she! The puppy snuggles were followed by another friends’ art show and a girls night.

If you have noticed the 3 glasses of wine I am holding, don’t jump to conclusions! They aren’t all mine…

Let’s just say I certainly had my share of beverages and sadly due to an “inexplicable illness” the following morning I did not make it to the food cart fest. Devastating… I know!

On the bright side, two of my favorite shows are back on tonight, 2 Broke Girls and Hawaii Five O. It’s all about finding your silver lining people.

I Was Looking Forward To. Food Cart Fest at  The Waldorf.

I have not sampled a single bite from any of Vancouver’s new and exciting food trucks. What better way to do it, then all at once! The Food Cart Fest ran every Sunday throughout the Summer. Unfortunately, our busy schedule did not allow us to check it out. But fortunately, for us it was so popular they extended it until Sept 30…yessssss! I can not wait to stuff my face, have a couple beverages and enjoy the live music.

I Ogled on Etsy. The gorgeous fruit bin.

It sits under you cabinets and above the counter, perfect for utilizing counter space in a small kitchen. I would love to replace out counter top basket with this beauty!

That Made Me Laugh Out Loud.

When I am lost the first thing I do is turn down the music, silence is totally going to help me figure out where I am…not! If you don’t listen to country music you probably won’t get it….I will forgive you, but just this once!

Two words…yes please! Let’s talk about Pinterest for a moment, does anyone get as much joy as I do when people re pin the things you’ve pinned? I don’t know why but for some reason it is really, really satisfying…is that weird?

15 Books to Cure your Hunger Games Hangover. I can fully admit that I have not recovered from my Hunger Games hang0ver and I have been looking for something to fill the giant void for some time. I have heard of Diveregent and was considering reading the series, do you have any insight into this novel or any of the others on the list? Sharing is caring you know!

Fall Fashion Essentials

I don’t by any means consider myself a fashion connoisseur, but I do like to keep up with trends (if they work for me) and try new things with my wardrobe. It is still hot and sunny here in Vancouver and I kind of wish it would just go away. Don’t hate me but I am just so in love with Fall, especially this seasons hot items; bright lips, peplums, polka dots and bows. This Summer weather is really cramping my Fall wardrobe’s style…pun fully intended ;).

Now I don’t expect you to take any sort of advice from me, but I thought I might share all of the Fall “it” items I am loving! I created this Polyvore board for your viewing pleasure.

If you have never ventured over to Polyvore I would highly recommend check it out. I absolutely love creating style boards and finding inspiration in other people’s creations. Not to mention the fact that the site allows you to source and purchase all of the items you fall in love with.

Monday Morsels

Oh hey there Monday morning that I am not quite ready to face. I just love waking up 20 minutes before I need to leave the house, especially when there is no one to blame but myself. I will commend myself for walking the dog, brushing my teeth and throwing on some clothes all in that short span of time. But as a general rule I need at least 45 minute to wake up, as a result, I am writing this post in a bit of a haze…forgive me! I will say that it was a pretty fantastic weekend.

We celebrated Lulu’s 5th birthday.

Seriously, how can you resist that face! I know I can’t.

She shared her pupcakes with her BFF’s…and then licked all the icing off the floor.

And then I woke up bright and early on Saturday morning to do a little bit of cross border shopping. I intended only to buy groceries but the problem is Target has clothes in my line of vision…no matter which way I enter the store. And People Style told me I needed a sweater dress for fall, and the Sweater dresses were on sale. I think we know where this is going…

It was all downhill from there, because then I went into Forever 21 and bought this.

Followed by a jean purchase at American Eagle…oops? In my defense, each of these items were listed on the Fall wardrobe must haves…

On Sunday was the 7th Annual BBQ on the Bypass, it was bumpin’

It was beautiful sunshiny day filled with fantastic people and of course, amazing food! Seriously check out these competitor entries.

I bet you’re jealous you weren’t there…you should be!
