Last Thing Thursdays

31 May

Hey guess what? My life is almost back to normal, amazing right? Agreed! And I even got to enjoy a night on the town lat night.

The Last Thing I…

Did. Last night I got all dressed up saw Leighton Meester and Check in the Dark at the Vogue in downtown Vancouver. I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect and lets just say it was interesting. Leighton Meester sounded great, along with her opening act Dana Williams. Check in the Dark however, was not exactly my cup of tea.

Wore. A night out means a new outfit right? What do you think hit or miss?

Pants H & M, Blazer F21, Shirt Lauren Conrad, Shoes Marc Fisher. And yes, I cropped out my face because I didn’t like it 🙂

Thought was Really Neat. The Little Free Library. Get a book, give a book, need a book, take a book. Most of us practice this with our friends and family but The Little Free Library has allowed you to do the same with neighbors and passers by. This started in Wisconsin but has made its way to Vancouver on East 26th Ave. Thanks Vitamin Daily for sharing!

Wanted to Buy. Call me crazy but who wouldn’t designer sequined band aids. Cynthia Rowley partnered with Band Aid to create these snazzy little numbers…love! I found them on Amazon.com for only $2.99 but not amazon.ca damn it!

Got Really Excited About. Shelving! Yes, sweet, sweet shelving.

This is the start of something beautiful. And yes, that is an ugly Christmas sweater you’ve spotted on the far right.

Pinned. These delicious looking peach cupcakes.

Hopefully they get you through the day.

Blogroll – Kendi Everyday

29 May

I have been on a real fashion kick lately. I am not sure if it’s because I have spent the last month buying tiles, flooring and light fixtures that I just feel like I NEED to buy clothes, shoes and accessories. But I think it might have something to do with the inspiration this amazing fashion blog has given me. Kendi Everyday if often a source of envy for me, I absolutely love her outfits. There are a lot of fashonistas I wish I could dress like, but in my head I just know there are certain things that I could never pull off. And I know that most of you are often in the same predicament.Well have I got a solution for you, you guessed it…Kendi! Sophisticated, classy and inventive – I love pretty much everything she puts on and I think you will too!

Enjoy!

PS. She also has a store in Dallas, Bloom. Pretty sure if I didn’t live across the continent I would be a regular customer if you know what I mean. If you are ever in the area you should check it out. Oh, and then tell me about it so that I can live vicariously through you.

Monday Morsels – Moving Edition

28 May

Hey kids – I hope that you were able to have an enjoyable weekend because mine really was not awesome. All I can say is moving stinks…oh and I think I am verging on borderline hoarder status. No big deal. But on the bright side I am FINALLY in my apartment. And I have some pretty amazing family and friends for helping with the most disorganized move in history. I was throwing clothes in garbage bags when they arrived. Who am I kidding I was throwing everything in garbage bags, Tupperware, spices, blankets . Glad makes some pretty flexible bags…just sayin! It is really, really exciting amidst the chaos of course. We don’t have any shelving in our closets yet so we are living among clothes mountains.

Lulu is not impressed. There is also the minor issue with the lack of a shower rod, meaning no shower curtain. Who knew how much water could escape, well I do now! Oh and the lack of a mirror definitely caused some pain and suffering for my coworkers. This morning was interesting to say the least.

But in the grand scheme of things these are very minor. And look at what I found to put above our bed. Perfect!

Find your silver lining people!

Happy Monday!

Top Summer Sippers

25 May

It’s Friday, need a drink? Me too! I mean I really need a drink. In the past week I have had flooring installed, made countless trips to IKEA and Home Depot, had a trip to the vet, packed my whole life into Rubbermaid bins and tomorrow we move. Bring it on world, I can so take you!

Since I have alcohol on the brain (normal right?) I thought I would share my favorite summer cocktails from around the web. Hopefully these will get all of us through the next couple of days.

Fresh Cherry Mojitos from Eat Live Run

Riesling Strawberry Slushies from with Style& Grace

Peach Lemonade Coolers from Cook Au Vin

Mango Marti from First Look then Cook

Kiwi Caprioska from Spoon Fork Bacon

Cherry Beer Margaritas from The Blond Cook

Raspberry Lemon Prosecco Cocktail from The Slow Roasted Italian

Blackberry Champagne Margaritas from Just Putzing Around the Kitchen

Wish me luck tomorrow oh and be a dear and run one of these over would ya?

Last Thing Thursdays

24 May

I am seriously sleep deprived people. That is all.

The Last Thing I…

Pinned. Apartment Inspiration. Who am I kidding this will probably not be permitted in the new place. Reason? Too girly. Insert eye roll here.

Listened to. Queen of California off John Mayer’s new album Born and Raised. I have to say I am really digging what I have heard so far.

Really Wanted to Buy.

I saw this skirt on Cupcakes and Cashmere and fell instantly in love…Amazing, Right? Coming soon to my closet!

Bought. Light fixtures, curtains and a vanity. Finally we have moved on to the fun stuff. Pictures to come I promise.

Had to do that I didn’t want to. Take my poor Lulu to the vet. Her ears have just been so bad I knew it was time, and what do you know – a double ear infection. Poor thing, it  was a bit of a traumatizing experience for both of us. It took myself and a vet tech to hold her down to have them cleaned. $220 later she was feeling much better and I was covered in pee. Money well spent!

Ate. Chips for dinner, definitely a downfall of finishing renovations before we move in on Saturday. Or a plus depending on how you look at it.

Side Note – These new Presidents Choice Pop Chips were not half bad (I had ketchup flavor). I may even be persuaded to eat another bag for dinner.

Planned. Summer projects to start once we are settled in.

Love these jar labels, we are painting a chalkboard wall in our kitchen so this perfect for the leftovers.

PS. It’s almost Friday which is totally exciting for you but for mean it probably means even less sleep and more hard work!

Monday Morsels – Rodeo Edition

21 May

It’s Monday. I’m tired…just thought you should know. But the fatigue is well worth it after an action packed weekend at the Cowboy Cookoff – a part of the Cloverdale Rodeo.

On Saturday I was fortunate enough to be a part of the pie, chilli and bacon categories.

These are just a few of the entries I was able to sample…Jealous?

Later that evening the girls showed up so that we could participate in some “adult” rodeo activities. i.e. Drink plenty of beer in the Longhorn Saloon.

Unfortunately after waiting in line for over an hour and having the entrance nowhere in sight we decided that valuable drinking time was being wasted. After shutting down the beer garden and eating my second bag of mini donuts we headed over to a friends for a bonfire.

Sunday was main the portion of the BBQ competition; pork, brisket, chicken and ribs…it was glorious! Needless to say, today I am wearing stretchy pants.

I hope you also had a chance to enjoy your long weekend (maybe you still are!)

Happy Monday!

Birthday Cake Popcorn

18 May

Remember a month or so ago when I told you about those delicious Jello shots, well they were to celebrate two of my best friends birthdays. While the hostess with the mostest slaved away layering those magnificent (but dangerous) shooters,  my contribution to the party was Birthday Cake Popcorn and let me tell you, it was a smashing success. The salty and sweet reminded me of kettle corn but the cake batter just takes it to a whole new level.

This popcorn is a sure-fire way to be the hit of any party. I promise, once the word spreads of your delicious concoction you will bright smack dab in the middle of every social circle. It is just screams…yes I am that awesome!

Birthday Cake Popcorn – adapted from The Tasty Kitchen Blog

Ingredients

1 Box Yellow Cake Mix

1 Package (3 cups) White Chocolate Chips

1/2 cup margarine

12 cups of popped popcorn (I used 2 bags – butter flavor)

1 Cup Sprinkles

Directions

Melt the chocolate chips and margarine together in a medium-sized saucepan until they are smooth and well combined.

While your chocolate is melting pop your popcorn and then pour it into a large bowl. Also, line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.

Once the chocolate mixture is nice and smooth  stir in the box of cake mix and remove from the heat.

Pour the hot mixture over the popcorn and then add sprinkles until your heart is content. I recommend mixing with tongs or wooden spoons, treat it like you are tossing a salad. Be sure to coat as much of the popcorn as possible.

Once you have thoroughly mixed everything pour it onto the cookie sheet to cool.

The chocolate and cake batter will harden on your popcorn and provide you with an amazing sweet treat. Keep in mind you can theme this to suit any occasion; Christmas, baby shower, or even Halloween.

You’re Welcome!

PS. Sorry for the lack of pictures I forgot to take some before I left and there were no survivors.
